The Pre-Existing Condition of Being a Woman
2018, video, 3:11
This work is a study of the discourse around sexual health and women's rights. The audio is compiled of footage from rallies, interviews, speeches, and documentaries from the 1960's to today. The artist spreads their own menstrual blood across paper disks using a coat hanger, empty birth control packet, and syringe. These objects were chosen as a reminder of the means that women of different dispositions use to change the circumstances of their health-some being more or less hazardous than the other.
